Caterham 7s

Thanks for trying our mod and we hope you enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed making it.

The Caterham 7 mod for GPL began its journey back in 2004 when Matt (Mr Photog) built the first 3D model and Richard made the first physics.
Testing and enhancements were made but as the team worked on other projects this was put to one side.

In 2009 Shaun Collins from sc3dfx and Bob (Royale) converted and delivered superb new 3D models in 6 variants.
The team made further developments until events and other mods stalled things again.

But this mod was too much fun to be forgotten.

Small additions were made until in 2023 there was another push to get this mod finished.

The physics evolved with extensive testing eventually settling on the 4 cars listed below which are all currently available from Caterham Cars.
The final 3D car models were converted and optimised by Phil Woodward resulting in some of the most refined 3D models we have in GPL.

Now, after 20 years, we hope you enjoy the result.

We have included 4 different Caterham 7s.
They normally run in class in their respective championships.

Academy

The Academy car with its 125 bhp may not have lots of power but still provides close race action.
The cars use Avon road legal all weather tires and must run with lights and full windscreen.
Owners often drive their car to the race meeting (hoping to drive it back home after the races).
The Academy has its own championship.

310R

The next step on the ladder for us is the 310R.
This car is race prepared with full rollcage and uses Toyo racing tires with a minimal tread pattern.
Power is up to 152 bhp which considering this cars light weight is over 300 bhp per ton.
The 310R has its own championship.

420 Cup

The premier Caterham racing class is the "Seven Championship UK".
This championship uses the 420R which ups the power again to around 400 bhp per ton.
The car is race prepared with full roll cage. It uses a 6 speed sequential gearbox and runs on Avon racing slicks (in dry weather).
The Caterham Seven Championship UK is the only nationally recognised top-tier Caterham racing series in Britain.

620R

The last car in our line up is the most powerful car but there is currently no official race series for it.
This is the 620R with supercharger bolted to the 2lt Duratech motor it pumps out over 300 bhp. The car is still very light weight and will give most Hypercars a challenge with its 0-60 mph time of 2.7 seconds.
The car is available from Caterham in several specs. We have this car as a road and track day car with lights and full windscreen.
Avon ZZR road legal tires with minimal tread pattern are fitted to our car.

Easy to drive default setups are included to get you going.

Options for the AI and the player are included gpl/Caterham_Options.
There are readme that explain their function.

Sound options for alternative wind, shift and skid sounds are available in gpl/sounds/Caterham_sound_options.

The team will supply templates to make it easier for you to paint your own cars, helmets and race suits.
These will be supplied in a separate package.

NOTE: The car pictures that display in Gem+ must be copied to your GPLSecrets folder.
This must be done manually because the main installer may have a different destination.
A separate Caterham7_Gem+CarPictures.zip contains these files.

Installation

Run the installer.
Direct it to your gpl when asked.

Create a player in GPL for Caterhams (or use an existing player), exit GPL

Start GEM+

click CARSETS button

Move GPLCT (Caterhams) to the ACTIVE column, click the active carset and a box opens showing the teams and a physics box which should say GPLCT. Click OK.

Select your Caterham player. Next to the CARSETS button is a box which probably says "1967 Grand Prix" click the arrow and select "Caterhams (GPLCT)" for your player.

67Season is selected as default.
CTseason is included but you must have the listed tracks installed (branindy, doningtn, thruxton) or CTseason will cause the game to CTD.
We used these tracks for testing but apart from that they are not significant and you can make your own CTseason with the GEM+ Season Manager.

gCT championship season is also included but like CTseason you must have the tracks installed to use it until you make your own championship.

If in doubt use 67season until you make your own CTseason.

Tick any GEM+ options you normally use.

Exit GEM+ and a gplcct.exe will be created.

You can start the exe from your GPL folder or from GEM+.

That's it.
Now you are ready to have some fun.

You can race the Caterhams against the AI or online.
The default drivCT.ini gives a mix of all 4 cars so you can see the 4 different car classes.

There are options to have all AI in the same car as you (gpl/Caterham_Options).
The Caterhams race in spec, so if you are driving the 420R you should rename and use the drivCT_420 option so the AI have the 420R.

We hope online leagues will pick these up because they are even more fun against real drivers.
